2003-02-08 - 4:04 a.m. When Do You Work Again?! Ya, So, I'm home again. Samantha is here. She picked me up from work after my night shift. Now, She's sleeping on my couch and I'm awake cause, well, I always stay up pretty late after my night shifts. Entirely far too late of late. Seems her son is having a sleep over at a friends place. It's way across town and she doesn't like driving at night so she's staying here and she'll pick her son up tomorrow whenever she gets up. (Earlier than me but she'll wake me up soon after, I'm sure.) Speaking of waking me up. She phoned me at 10:30 this morning. This after I went to bed probably around 7am. (Ya, Got right to bed again..told ya too late of late) I excused her because she didn't know I had gone to bed so late. We talked on phone for about an hour. I told her I was going back to sleep cause I needed to get some sleep before I went to work and that 5pm was probably a good time to come get me. Now, I don't know what possessed her but she phoned me back at about just after 1pm. That conversation was REALLY short. I didn't get angry but I was pretty specific that I had told her I was going to sleep again. Anyway, I re-iterated that she had interupted my sleep and I was going to attempt it again. Luckily for me, She arrive at my place at about 4:30pm cause I was still sleeping when my door buzzer went off. I was so damn blasted tired. I HATE when my sleep gets interupted. This a problem I commonly notice. Non-Shift workers have no clue how precious sleep is to a shift worker. They go about their lives waking up at about the same time everyday and going to bed at about the same time. This is not true of the pathetic shift worker. No. We are constantly adjusting our schedules (in my case from day shift to night shift) and along with it our sleeping pattern. Just because I am up and at 'em one day early doesn't mean the next day will be anywhere near the same. This isn't to say Shift Workers don't have a pattern to their day BUT I find non-shift workers RARELY can pick up on it. I just have to look back at Veronica. She could NEVER figure out my rotation. Even though it was pretty straight foward. 2 days, 2 nights, 2 off...repeat. She was ALWAYS asking "So what are you working?" I don't think she ever got it right. Oh well. Work. There was some excitement (not good) at work tonight. But I am going to leave that story for tomorrow. Stay Tuned...
