Intellectual Property

I never thought my procrastinating would bite me in the ass quite the way it has today. But it did.

Lately, I've been letting my journal entries purculate in my mind for awhile before I post them. This in an effort to minimize the crap I post and maximize the entertainment. (Ya, Right, Buddy.)

One of the things I wanted to write about was Bravo's Situation Comedy. For those who live under a rock, It's a reality show based on writing an script for Sit-com that will actually go on the air.

Thus you can imagine my HORROR this morning when I realize Unkle Boob the hit monger, wrote about it today. DAMN IT. Now I just seem like a copycat. Damn You, Uncle Bob!

So, I had heard about this and I decided that I had an EXCELLENT idea for a Sitcom. One that I thought could be pure comedy gold!

It's ensemble cast setup (Like Cheers, Friends, etc.) set in a place of business and many hilarious things happen episode to episode. How could I miss?

My mind was starting to fill with potential ideas for a pilot show. It was about then I decided to look at the Offical Rules to the contest and saw that you have to be a Resident of the United States in order to be eligible for the contest!

Bastards! Just because Canadians are far superior in the Comedy Genre (See Michael J. Fox, Dan Ankroyd, Martin Short, Eugene Levy) than Americans is no reason to exclude us!

I know I'm a total hack of a writer and my chances of actually winning (or even becoming top 10 material) is a complete shot in the dark with an unloaded gun but I was kind of excited with the idea of writing a script.

I never quite realized how much I enjoy writing until I started journalling some two years ago. I had written stuff in the past (poetry, radio shows, sketch comedy, and two books) but that was mostly as a teenager. I've never thought of my writing as anything commercially viable but that's not to say I wouldn't welcome the chance.

I see people like Pork Tornado getting Paid Writing Gigs and think "Wow, That'd be pretty cool to do as side job." Although, then there's the pressure to produce on a regular basis and if it's comedy you have to produce. Wow, that can be asking a lot on a reaccuring schedule.

Anyway, It was disappointing that I wouldn't be able to submit my idea for a sitcom to Bravo. If it's successful maybe the Canadian Bravo will do their own version kind of like we have a "Canadian Idol" show to go along with "American Idol".

Until then I can keep perculating the idea in my head and hope that Uncle Bob doesn't steal my idea in the meantime!
